Torus mandibularis is an exostosis or outgrowth of bone found on the lingual surface of the mandible. It is a benign condition.
Clinical features:
Torus mandibularis occurs above the mylohyoid line opposite to the bicuspid teeth. It may vary considerably in size and shape. The mandibular tori are usually bilateral. The unilateral and bilateral protuberances may be single or multiple and frequently visible on dental periapical roentgenograms.
Treatment and prognosis:
Surgical removal of the torus mandibularis may be necessary because of the difficulties encountered in attempting to construct a denture over the outgrowth.
